What are Semi-Permanent Eyelash Extensions?

Semi-Permanent Eyelash Extensions are among the hottest new beauty enhancement treatments available today.  Much like hair extensions worn on the scalp, semi-permanent eyelash extensions are a natural-looking, easy to maintain option for eyelash enhancement.  Lash extensions are made of synthetic fibers such as polyester that imitate the look and feel of natural hair. The lash extensions are amazingly lightweight and the best grades are completely free of any carbonate, silicone, or glycol.  Each extension is applied individually to the base of the natural lash using a hypoallergenic, flexible adhesive.

How are the Semi-Permanent Eyelash Extensions applied?

To apply eyelash extensions, a special cyanoacrylate adhesive is used, which is the very same glue that doctors use to close surgical lacerations during and after operations.  The lash extension with adhesive is applied to the base of the natural lash with no direct contact to the skin.  It generally takes an hour and a half to two hours to attach them.

Is the adhesive/glue harmful?

The adhesive is surgical grade and is safe for the skin. It resists water and provides a light, tight bond between the natural lash and the lash extension. For people with very sensitive skin, the adhesive has no direct contact with skin decreasing the chances of an allergic reaction.

How long does it take to apply the Semi-Permanent Eyelash Extensions?

It generally takes 1½ to 2 hours to attach them to the natural lashes.  An average person might have anywhere from 30 to 80 lash extensions per eye.  The variance in the number of lash extensions accounts for the difference in how long it takes to apply them.

How long do the Semi-Permanent Eyelash Extensions last?

If applied properly eyelash extensions can last up to two months, but it depends on the cycle of hair growth.  As hair grows out, it cycles and falls out naturally, thus shedding the lash extension with it. To keep your lash extensions looking full and beautiful, it is necessary to get a relash every 2 to 3 weeks.

How are the Semi-Permanent Eyelash Extensions removed?

If you cannot wait for the lash extensions to shed with your natural lashes, your lash stylist can use an oil based solvent to loosen the adhesive and remove them without damaging your natural lashes.

How do I maintain the Eyelash Extensions?

Maintenance is very simple!
Do not get them wet within 24 hours after getting the lash extensions applied.
Brush your lashes at least twice a day to keep them free flowing and lint free.
Do not use lash curlers.
Do not use oil based cleansers or makeup on the lash extensions.
Do clean the lash extensions, but try not to get them wet on a regular basis.
Use a face cloth to clean the face and pat the eyes dry.
Do not rub the eyes excessively.
Do not use waterproof mascara.
If you must use mascara, apply the mascara to the tips of the lash extensions and brush a clean lash brush through the extensions to distribute the mascara.

Semi-Permanent Lash Extensions and False Lashes

Lash extensions are an excellent alternative to wearing false lashes because they do not feel as heavy or irritating on the eyes.  Additionally, they look natural. The line of false lashes can be clearly seen, but with the lash extensions, no one will be able to know for certain that you were not born with long, beautiful eyelashes. The big plus is, they last way longer than regular false lashes.
